About the Centre

Mission Statement

Non-European research problematics

For a long time now the University of Warsaw has developed a strong position in the fields of history and anthropology of non-European societies. We have many excellent specialists of Africa, South and East Asia, the Middle East, as well as Mesoamerica and South America.

While many researchers are interested in comparative studies or in drawing inspiration from research or areas distant from their own research field, their activities are currently dispersed among several organizational units, a situation that does not facilitate everyday academic contacts.

What is WCGH?

The Warsaw Centre for Global History is a continuation of the Global History Team established in 2020 as an interdepartmental collective of the Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw. The Centre’s task is to integrate the activities of scholars who either apply the methodology of global history or look at the subject of their research from a global perspective.  Our initiative also aims at integrating the Faculty of History with recognized academic centers of Global History around the world through establishing direct contacts and joint projects.

Our activities include, among others, the organization of a permanent seminar, a scientific conference (January 2023) and project workshops for students. In the near term, we intend to co-finance research projects of employees and doctoral students of the University of Warsaw, which will result in publications in the highest-scored international journals and collective works published by renowned international publishing houses.
