Photo report from the conference “Mobilizing and Weaponizing Memories of Soviet Repressions”

From October 29–31, 2025, the international conference “Mobilizing and Weaponizing Memories of Soviet Repressions” took place, organized by the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, in partnership with the Warsaw Centre of Global History and the Faculty of History.

The event brought together over 100 researchers from more than 20 countries – from Japan to Alaska. The discussions were lively, inspiring, and filled with important questions.

On October 28, masterclasses for young scholars from Poland and abroad were held, funded by the Warsaw Global History Center. On October 29, participants took part in the “Restoring Names” ritual organized by Memorial Poland, and the following day attended an evening of short art films on Soviet repressions at the History Meeting House (Dom Spotkań z Historią).

The conference was funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the “Excellent Science – Support for Scientific Conferences” program (KONF/SP/0014/2024/02).
