Summer school “Between Giants” 8–13 September

From 8–13 September, the Warsaw Centre of Global History, a joint initiative of the Faculty of History and the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, organized the international summer school “Between Giants: Local Responses to Global Power Dynamics. Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia.”

We kicked off on 8 September with public lectures at the University of Warsaw, then participants headed to Podlasie for fieldwork (Krynki–Kruszyniany–Supraśl–Białystok), attended seminars, and presented their research projects.

Participants from across the world — from Mexico to Japan — came together to reflect on the lived consequences of being situated between empires. The program included lectures and seminars, field trips, museum visits, and in-depth discussions of the participants’ own research projects.

The school was organized by Natalia Królikowska-Jedlińska and Zuzanna Bogumił, with keynote lectures delivered, among others, by Tomasz Zarycki, Iwona Kaliszewska, and Margaret Comer of the University of Warsaw.

We would like to thank all of the participants for their inspiring contributions, thoughtful conversations, and the warm and unforgettable atmosphere that we created together. We hope that the networks formed here will continue to grow — and that this is just the beginning of future collaborations.
